Congratulations Amanda, Pete and Henry on your completion of On-Ramp and crushing your Day 1 WOD times. We are so happy you have chosen to be a part of our community. Gang, if you see these three in the box be sure to welcome them and assist if they have any needs. We all had a first day on our own in the Box and we all could use a little guidance.
I've been dreading writing this note as by doing so it makes it real. We are sad (but happy for) to announce Shawn's last day at CFB will be this Wednesday as he plans to focus on his new teaching position and has accepted more responsibility associated with it. It is with an incredibly heavy heart to post this as Shawn has been a tremendous advocate and ambassador for CFB as well as being my right hand the past year and a half he is a great friend. I could write paragraph after paragraph about the stories and influence Shawn has had on ALL of us over the past 6 years. His passion and commitment to CFB is second to none. And his dedication, support, humor, and advice will leave a void in me which is going to take some time to fill. But, with every closing of a door is an opening of a window and we wish Shawn nothing but great things in this new chapter in his life. So, as Dr. Seuss says so wisely, "Don't be sad it's over, be happy it happened." and join us for a drink and offer our support for Shawn as he moves on from CFB and enters a new chapter in his life this Wednesday, August 29 during Open Gym.
We will run an abridged schedule on Monday, September 3, Labor Day. Sessions will be at 8 am, 9 am and 10 am. Please join us as we will be doing "Bradshaw"
U.S. Army First Lieutenant Brian Bradshaw, 24, of Steilacoom, Washington, assigned to the 1st Battalion, 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Airborne Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, based in Fort Richardson, Alaska, died in Kheyl, Afghanistan, on June 25th, 2009, from wounds suffered when insurgents detonated a roadside bomb near his vehicle. He is survived by his parents, Paul and Mary, and brother Robert.
Tuesday, September 11 we will be doing our annual "343" WOD in memory of all first responders and victims who perished in NYC, Shanksville and at the Pentagon September 11, 2001. We will run a regularly scheduled day but please note this WOD can take upwards of 30 minutes. If you plan to attend keep that in mind and allow time to finish. We will have a Self Guided warm-up session to allow coaches to keep eyes on active participants. We will have commemorative T-Shirts and Tanks for sale.
This coming Saturday, September 1 during Team WOD we will be running CrossFit's fundraiser "Saved By The Barbell." This is a workout created by the CrossFit Foundation to raise funds to support the development and growth of CrossFit programs for kids in schools, recreation centers, and communities everywhere. Your efforts will fund training for teachers, put new equipment in schools, and support the health and fitness of thousands of children. To get more info or to make a donation click here.
We have filled out all paperwork with Kettlebell Kitchens to be a distribution center for their products. I am just waiting for discount codes and for them to put us on the affiliate list. Before we will become a distribution for you to pick up directly from us they are going to start you all off with home delivery. Order days will be Wednesday for Sunday delivery and Saturday for Wednesday delivery. I will have discount codes for everyone's first delivery so please stand by. If you don't know, Kettlebell Kitchens offers Mediterranean-Inspired, paleo, clean food in hearty portions. Click here to see their menu.
Also, we are pleased to announce we have reached out to Stronger U for nutrition coaching. From Stronger U: Our nutritional approach is based on the idea of complete food freedom. We believe in boundaries, no restrictions, so no foods are off limits and guilt is off the menu; we call this “Structured Flexibility.”
We offer individualized plans based on your specific goals, as well as your food preferences and dietary restrictions. Whether your goal is to be healthier, improve your body composition, or achieve peak performance, our plans are tailored to your needs. We know that no two people are the same, so no two programs will ever be the same.
Stronger U have been kind enough to extend a 10% discount to all CFB members who join their program. With this info, we are thinking of a "Back To School" Nutrition challenge. I have reached out to Dr. Joyce chiro down the street and see if we can schedule to use his In Body Scanner for accurate measurements. If you are interested please email me to get on the list. Thanks
Varsity will resume Wednesday, September 5 at 5:00 pm
We would love to get positive "Athlete Testimonials" to post on the new CFB web page. We want to share our community with the neighborhood and surrounding areas and your testimonials are so important in giving people confidence to come through our doors. If you have some free time and have good things to say about your CFB experience, please jot it down. We would love to share it. Thanks in advance.
PARENTS: Please, please keep an eye on your children if you bring them to the box. We understand sitting in the lobby is no fun for them, but this is a safety issue. Barbells come down hard from overhead and cannot be stopped even if a child runs out onto the floor. The staff is not responsible for keeping your children in the lobby area and should not have to police them.
